What happens at the polling place?

Your polling place will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Your vote will be counted after the polls close.

Check in:

  • You will be asked to say your name and address. The poll worker will look for your name on the list of voters for your polling place. You will sign your name on this list.

 

 

 

  • Woman getting ballotIf you are a first time voter, you may have to show your ID.

  • If your name is not on the list of voters, you may still be able to vote with a “provisional ballot.” Click here to find out more.

 

 

 

  • Man getting voting card to vote with computerThe poll worker may hand you a ballot card or a special computer card to use for voting. What they give you depends on the type of voting system used at your polling place.

Voting tips:

  • You don't have to vote on everything. Just vote on the things that matter to you.
  • You can bring notes about your choices into the voting booth. You can even bring your Sample Ballot already marked and use it to help you fill out your official ballot.
  • You can bring a friend or family member to help you at the polling place.
